The Latest Thinks . . .

ChordCalc 1.0.3

The most major update yet! I spent many late nights improving chord notation and made some great interface improvements too. The keyboard now includes an extra row of keys with the most common musical symbols, and chord name input is filtered more scrupulously to limit garbage entry.

FretPet X 1.2.4

FretPet 1.2.4 adds keyboard shortcuts to the Filters menu, fixes an issue with playback being interrupted by menus, and now includes Sparkle to automatic check the internet for version updates. Also fixed Kagi Registration module connection problem.

FretPet X 1.2.3

Recent scrutiny of ChordCalc's notation code continues to push FretPet forward. This update brings FretPet's chord notation up to par with ChordCalc 1.0.3.

Tonight's petcast composition comes from Tucker Stilley, whose website The Permanent Record features creative works in various forms of media. As a working artist and composer, Tucker is distinctive in that he's paralyzed by Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the neurodegenerative disease made famous by Lou Gehrig and Stephen Hawking. Since all his work in FretPet has to be done using a head mouse and remapped buttons, he's had to improvise to produce a more conducive workflow. Using multiple document windows as scratchpads, he develops his compositions in chunks before recombining them to produce a finished piece. Tucker has loads of feature suggestions for FretPet which I surely hope to incorporate as time allows. The artwork featured here is a detail from Tucker's painting "Hardest Thing."

FretPet X 1.2.2

Continuing in my obsession with chord notation, another improved version of FretPet rolls off the assembly line.

ChordCalc Lite is the free version of ChordCalc, showcasing just the Chord and Scale screens from the full version of ChordCalc. It doesn't have audio feedback, the Circle Screen, or the Guitar Screen, but you can type in the name of a chord and see what notes it contains. Then on the Chord Screen you can select from all the chord's possible names and toggle notes to produce new chords. The Scale Screen includes all the scales from ChordCalc, including the 7 modes of the Major scale. There you can drag the chord to transpose it to a new key or progress through the harmonies of the scale.

The ChordCalc 1.0.1 update includes major fixes to the chord naming code, support for sideways guitar orientation, and other helpful enhancements to provide a more useful and accurate app for all your chordy purposes.
